The Manapōuri Power Scheme is approaching a once-in-a-generation milestone.
Its resource consents come up for renewal in 2031.
That gives our community an opportunity to think boldly about the future of the Waiau River — and what we want the next generation to inherit.
Could we have a healthier river?
Could more water be available when the river needs it?
Could water support new opportunities for farming, horticulture and local jobs?
Could we improve resilience to both drought and flooding?
And could we achieve these things while continuing to generate renewable electricity?
