Lake Monowai<\/p><\/div>\n

Lake Monowai<\/h4>\n

Lake Monowai was one of the first New Zealand lakes to be harnessed for hydro-electric power production and is a gateway to the southern part of Fiordland National Park.<\/p>\n

Small picnic and camping areas with toilets are located at Lake Monowai.<\/p>\n

There are numerous walking tracks and tramps in the area.<\/p>\n

Lake Monowai and its tributary rivers provide good trout fishing (anglers need a current fishing licence).<\/p>\n

A boat launching ramp is at the end of the road at Lake Monowai. Care must be taken to avoid submerged tree stumps around the shore line.<\/p>\n

\nWalk through mature beech forest, to overlook the lower reaches of Lake Monowai.<\/p>\n

Access:<\/h5>\n

Turn off the Southern Scenic Route<\/a> between Clifden and Manapouri, just north of the Blackmount School.<\/p>\n
