An article, My Recollections of Early Tuatapere, written in 1952 by Mr Hugh McFeelty, who was sole and head teacher at Tuatapere from 1910 to 1922, which appeared in the Waiau Gazette in 1970, is reproduced here as it provides details of the school, special occasions, the township, sawmilling, athletics, the churches, the residents, and some detail of the way of life in and around Tuatapere in early days.
